About Surrey

Surrey is perceived as an affluent suburban area that houses many London commuters. As a result, the area is often dubbed the gin and jag, stockbroker belt or the patio of London. However, the county has much more to offer than just houses. In fact, 70 percent of Surrey is green-belt land, which can’t be built on or turned into suburban houses. This makes the county an exciting location for ramblers, riders and cyclists to visit for a tranquil day out.

Although you might not immediately think of Surrey as a good tourist location, we think that it is the perfect location to enjoy a weekend away or holiday. With fabulous historic sites, some wonderful green spaces and fabulous shopping opportunities, a visit to Surrey has something for everyone. Best of all, it is well served by road and train connections, so you will find it easy to get to it from London and a number of other UK locations.

Simply have a glimpse at the tourist guide to Surrey that we've created below and you will soon find out the hottest stuff to do during your stay in Surrey.

Things to Do

Surrey has plenty of activities for all the family, so it is the perfect place to bring the whole family for a day trip. In fact, you'll be able to drop by a fully functioning farm in this county or even experience a wonderful ride at one of the county's two theme parks.

You can even help uncover Surrey’s history by touring one of the county's many historic houses, magnificent gardens or even one of its interesting museums or art galleries. We recommend the Cobham Bus Museum and the Holmesdale Natural History Museum.

Alternatively, if you have not got the children with you, drop by Denbies Wine Estate. Denbies Wine Estate is England's biggest fully functioning winery, which is situated in 265 acres of pretty vineyard, just opposite the beautiful scenery of Box Hill. Denbies Wine Estate offers regular tours and yummy wine tastings every single hour, so you'll be able to look at every part of wine making.

Much of Surrey is in the green belt and it is the most wooded county in Britain. There are numerous commons and access lands, in addition to a sizable network of foot paths and bridleways, which include the North Downs Way - a pretty long-distance path. Because of this, Surrey offers some fabulous rural leisure activities, which include bike riding, rambling and horse riding.

We've come to the end of our Surrey guide, but we hope you have found it informative. If you require any further information about this gorgeous county, just get in touch with your nearest tourist information office and they'll be happy to help you.
