Surrey is a county situated in the south east of England, which helps make up the Home Counties. Surrey borders Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, & Berkshire. Surrey Council is situated at Kingston-upon-Thames, although this town has belonged to Greater London since 1965. Due to the county's proximity to London, Surrey has numerous commuter towns & villages, which has made it one of the wealthiest areas in England.

Despite the vast amount of London commuters in Surrey, it's still a fantastic location to visit for a weekend away or holiday. After all, the county has beautiful countryside, fantastic stores, gorgeous market towns & some fantastic historical sites, so it really offers something for everyone. In fact, whether you are a walker, a cyclist or even just an ardent shopper, we are sure that you will find something to entertain you in this beautiful county.

Acres of Woodland

As we've probably already informed you, Surrey is the most wooded county in England. This is represented by Surrey County Council's logo, which shows a pair of interlinking oak leaves.

The diverse landscape of the county boasts historic woodlands, acid heaths and gorgeous grasslands. In fact, the Surrey Hills, which stretch across a quarter of the county, are so gorgeous that they've been allocated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area was created in 1958 and covers from Farnham to Oxted, and it extends further south to the wooded Greensand Hills, near Haslemere.

Great Shops

If you're planning to shop 'til you drop in Surrey, you will find that Guildford has everything you need and more. As well as numerous specialist shops, you will also find famous brands such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Boots, Marks and Spencer and W.H. smith here. In addition to this, the town also boasts a top street market on Fridays and Saturdays.

For a more old fashioned shopping experience, look up Farnham. This beautiful town is still really old-fashioned with some wonderful specialist shops, which are located just below Farnham Castle.

Lots of Family-Friendly Fun

If you're looking for a great family day trip, you can attend the open day in Busbridge Lakes for a pretty picnic. The very adventurous visitor can also consider taking a boat ride down the Wey Navigation or even going on a bike ride down the Downs Link Path.

In addition to these outdoor activities, you'll also be happy to know that the Surrey towns of Leatherhead, Chertsey & Farnham boast a handful of great museums, which include the Ash Museum. For art lovers, there's also the Forge & Dragon galleries or the Wints Picture Galleries, both of which show plenty of high-quality work. On the other hand, you can visit the wonderful Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, which has over 500 types of beer for you to taste.
