Surrey is a county situated in the south east of England, which helps make up the Home Counties. Surrey borders Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire.

Surrey county council is situated at Kingston-upon-Thames, although this town has been part of Greater London since 1965. Due to the county's closeness to London, Surrey has many commuter towns and villages, which have made it one of the most affluent areas in Britain.

Despite the vast amount of London commuters in Surrey, it is still a wonderful place to visit for a short break or holiday. After all, the county boasts pretty countryside, wonderful stores, beautiful market towns and some wonderful heritage sites, so it offers something for everyone. in fact, whether you are a walker, a cyclist or even simply an ardent shopper, we're sure that you'll find something to please you in this pretty county.

With 22.4 percent coverage of woods compared to the national average of 11.8 percent, Surrey is the most wooded county in England. The county boasts numerous notable beauty spots, which include Box Hill, Leith Hill, Frensham Ponds, Newland's Corner and the Puttenham and Crooksbury Commons. In actual fact, Box Hill boasts the most ancient untouched area of natural woods in England.

If you're looking for a great family day trip, you could go to one of the open days at Busbridge Lakes for a pretty picnic. On the other hand, you could take in the gorgeous scenery around the striking Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower or even at Outwood, which houses the oldest working windmill in the UK. The highly adventurous visitor could also consider taking a boat ride along the Wey Navigation or even a bike ride along the Downs Link Path.

In addition to these outdoor activities, you will also be pleased to know that the Surrey towns of Leatherhead, Chertsey and Farnham have a handful of great museums, including the Ash Museum. For art fans, there's also the Forge & Dragon galleries or the Watts Picture Galleries, both of which display some very fine work. On the other hand, you could visit the fantastic Hogs Back Brewery at Tongham, which has over 500 different beers for you to try.

If you'd like to shop 'til you drop in Surrey, you will find some exciting market towns that have numerous locations for you to grab a bargain. Oxted is a gorgeous location with a striking Tudor style high street that has a handful of chain shops and more specialist shops.

Surrey can be easily accessed from London by rail or road, which makes it the ideal place to visit for a day out, too.

In conclusion, we think that Surrey truly has something for everyone to enjoy. For more information on hotels, attractions and the county's historical woodland, please contact your nearest tourist information centre.
