Many people call Surrey the stock broker belt, due to the large amount of commuters who reside there. However, most of the county consists of pretty countryside, woodland and a number of nice market towns and mills.

Surrey is split into eleven boroughs and districts, including Elmbridge, Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking.

There are many reasons to visit Surrey, but we've pulled together some of the best and put them into the tourism guide below. Whether you are interested in rambling, bike riding, exploring historic sites or even simply shopping, we are positive that you'll find something to interest you.

Great Woodlands

As we've probably already mentioned, Surrey is the most wooded county in Great Britain. This is represented by Surrey County Council's logo, which shows two interlinking oak leaves.

The varied landscape of the county boasts very old woodlands, acid heaths and stunning grasslands. In actual fact, the Surrey Hills, which expand across a quarter of the county, are so stunning that they have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Fun for the Family

Surrey has plenty of activities for all the family, so it’s the perfect place to bring the complete family to for a day out. Indeed, you will be able to look up a fully functioning farm in this county or even just experience a fantastic ride at one of the county's theme parks.

You can even help uncover Surrey’s past by touring one of the county's many historical houses, magnificent gardens or even one of its interesting museums or art galleries. We recommend the Army Medical Services Museum & the Guildford Museum.

Alternatively, if you haven't got the kids with you, look up Denbies Wine Estate. Denbies Wine Estate is England's largest fully functioning winery, which is placed in 265 acres of pretty vineyard, just opposite the stunning scenery of Box Hill. Denbies Wine Estate offers frequent tours & tastings every hour, so you will be able to explore every single aspect of the wine making process.

Shopping

If you'd like to shop 'til you drop in Surrey, you will find some great market towns that have many places for you to bag a bargain. Cranleigh is one of our favourite spots, it is well known as the largest village in Britain and it has a quaint high street to compliment its rustic character. It also has a thriving market every Tuesday and a sizeable supermarket that caters to your every day needs.

Getting There

Surrey is easily reached by road and rail from the heart of London and it's also within easy reach of numerous other British cities.
