Kent is located in the south east of britain, which makes it one of the home counties. kent is surrounded by East Sussex, Surrey, London and Essex. in addition to these, Kent has a border with France, which is halfway through the channel tunnel. Maidstone is the county town of kent and Canterbury is the only city in the county.
Kent is well known for its orchards & hop gardens, so it is regularly called the garden of england.
As we might have already mentioned, Kent is a truly historical county. it's perhaps most well known for Canterbury, which was the basis for chaucer's canterbury tales & houses Canterbury Cathedral. in fact, Canterbury gained its first archbishop in 597, which was when Pope Gregory I appointed augustine to the job. ever since then, Canterbury - & its cathedral - have been at the centre of Christianity in britain.
Kent is a huge county, so there are lots of stuff to do there. in actual fact, Kent boasts numerous museums & galleries to visit.
One of kent's finest museums is the Maidstone Museum, which is located in the centre of the town in a stunning Elizabethan home. entry to this stunning museum is free & you'll be able to take in some exciting touring exhibitions & fabulous permanent collections
Another exciting museum is the Rye Castle museum, which is located in a historical tower that was built in 1249. It offers exciting views, as well as a handful of intriguing local history artifacts.
The shopping in kent is fabulous and should not be missed. even though the bigger towns have loads of high-street shops and designer shops, the quirky independent shops are even better.
In fact, the county has numerous farmers markets, which are a great place to pick up Kentish apple juice, home-made bread and other tasty produce.
Kent is a great place to visit for a lively evening out. Whether you love visiting peaceful public houses or noisy nightclubs, the county really does have something for everyone.
The county also boasts some great live music venues, which include the Tap n Tin in Chatham. The tap 'n' tin attracts touring acts, as well as some local acts, which means that you will be able to view the next big things in a small venue.
