London is britain's capital city and the world's ninth largest city. It boasts an interesting history that has lasted nearly 2000 years, which began when the romans arrived soon after they invaded britain in AD43.
London is located on the river banks of the thames, in the south east of the uk.
Throughout world war two, German bombs killed over 30,000 Londoners and destroyed many houses and other structures across London. This would not be the last time that London would be bombed.
In actual fact, irish republican army bombers challenged the city with bomb threats- and real bombs- for many years until their ceasefire in 1997. more recently, the city was hit by a series of bomb attacks in 2005, which were carried out by islamic extremists on the city's public transport network on 7 july.
Because it's the capital of britain, London has the best museums in the country. One of the best is the Science Museum, which is situated in south kensington. The museum was founded in 1857 and boasts over 300 000 exhibits, including Puffing Billy and Stephenson's Rocket.
The city boasts many of great galleries too, including the National Portrait gallery.
London has some of the best stores in the world. Whether you're looking for designer fashion, souvenirs or yummy food, you're sure to find the activities you want here.
One of the city's most famous shops is harrods in knightsbridge. This department store is one of the most famous in britain and was formed in 1834. now owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, it employs over 5000 people and has many designer concessions.
London boasts wonderful fashion, which we are sure that everyone will find great. From wonderful restaurants, to vip clubs and bars, there is something for everyone to enjoy in London.
One of the most famous clubs is the Embassy, which is a private members club on Old Burlington st. The nightclub is pretty pricey, but it's full of celebs and wonderful for star spotting. as well as this, it serves wonderful food by michelin star winner Garry Hollihead.
