Surrey is a county placed in england's south east, which helps to make up the Home Counties. Surrey surrounds Greater London, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire.
Surrey county council is placed at kingston-upon-thames, although the town has been part of Greater London since 1965. due to the county's proximity to London, Surrey has numerous commuter towns and villages, which has made it one of the most affluent areas in great britain.
Despite the vast number of London commuters in Surrey, it is still a wonderful place to visit for a weekend away or holiday. After all, the county boasts fabulous country side, wonderful stores, elegant market towns & some wonderful historic sites, so it really offers something for everyone. in actual fact, whether you are a walker, a cyclist or even only an eager shopper, we are sure that you will find something to entertain you in this fabulous county.
Surrey can be accessed easily from London by rail or road, which makes it the perfect place to visit for a day trip, too.
As we have probably already informed you, Surrey is the most wooded county in england. This is represented by Surrey County Council's logo, which depicts two linked oak leaves.
The diverse landscape of the county boasts ancient woodlands, acid heaths and impressive grasslands. in actual fact, the Surrey Hills, which stretch across a quarter of the county, are so impressive that they have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This component was created in 1958 and spans from Farnham to Oxted, and it extends further south to the wooded Greensand Hills near Haslemere.
If you're looking for a fabulous family day trip, you could attend one of the open days at Busbridge Lakes for a pretty picnic. alternatively, you could take in the gorgeous scenery situated around the pretty Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower or even at Outwood, which is home to the the oldest working windmill in england. The more adventurous visitor could also consider taking a boat ride along the Wey Navigation or even embarking on a cycle ride along the Downs Link Path.
In addition to these outdoor pursuits, you will also be happy to know that the Surrey towns of Leatherhead, Chertsey and Farnham have sometimes fabulous museums, comprising of the Ash Museum. For lovers of art, there's also the Forge & Dragon galleries or the Watts Picture Galleries, both of which show some high-quality work. alternatively, you could visit the superb Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, which has over 500 varieties of beer for you to try.
If you're planning to shop til you drop in Surrey, you will find that Guildford has everything you need and more. As well as numerous specialist shops, you will also find renowned names such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Boots, marks & spencers and w.h. smith here. In addition to this, the town also boasts a top market on Fridays and Saturdays.
For a more traditional shopping experience, drop by Farnham. This beautiful town remains extremely old-fashioned with some wonderful specialist shops which are situated just beneath Farnham Castle.
