As Caymanians, we’re proud of our culture and heritage. We’re equally anxious to share it with interested guests who visit the birthplace of our democracy, Pedro St. James, our Craft Market in George Town, the Heritage House in Savannah, our historic National Museum and the numerous National Trust sites, art galleries and local shops sprinkled throughout the islands.

In George Town, our modern capital, duty-free shopping is a high art. Be sure to check out the merchandise from names like Versace, Tiffany, Gucci, Baccarat, Cartier, Rolex, Nikon, Louis Vuitton and other well-known brands.

Our telephone service is completely modern and efficient. Worldwide calls can be made twenty-four hours a day, and prepaid calling cards can be purchased in many locations. Fax and telegraph services are available, as is Internet access at many hotels and Internet cafes around the islands.

Blessed with an abundance of scenic beauty and natural wonder, the Cayman Islands is a nature lover’s dream. We welcome you to look at, photograph and admire our beautiful wildlife, including the Blue Iguana, the rare Cayman Parrot and the Western Hemisphere’s largest population of Red-footed Boobies. Many species are endangered, however, and the Cayman Islands is dedicated to keeping them alive. Our strict Marine Conservation Laws prohibit the taking or disturbing of any marine life while in SCUBA gear or while in areas designated Marine Parks or Replenishment Zones. In general, we ask that you respect and do not harm Cayman’s flora and fauna, whether marine or on land, and do not remove it from its natural setting. The possession or use of spear guns anywhere in Cayman waters is illegal. Littering is also strictly prohibited throughout the islands and carries a CI$500 fine.

Cayman Islands law strictly prohibits begging, selling and soliciting of any kind by individuals on the street or beach. While we pride ourselves on having little criminal activity, we do ask our guests to take the necessary precautions in securing their valuables. Do not leave purses, wallets, cameras, jewelery, passports or any valuables out in the open, unattended on the beach, in your rental vehicle or other public places. Please report any violations to the local police.

Renting a car or motorbike is the best way to see our islands. You must be 21 to drive or rent a car in the Cayman Islands, but some rental agencies will not rent to those under 25 years of age. Please check with your rental company in advance. A temporary local driving permit (US$7.50) is required and this can be obtained from the agency at the time you collect your car. An important note: in Cayman, we drive on the left hand side of the road. Pedestrians are asked to stay on the sidewalks and roadsides and to use our crosswalks for safety. A seatbelt law is also in effect, so please buckle up.
